who is eligible to apply for a scholarship?

Applicants must be residents of the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area in their senior year of high school planning to attend college in the fall after graduation.

How does the JDJ Scholarship program work?

The scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of $4,000 over four years of undergraduate study as long as the recipient maintains a GPA of 2.5 for the preceding scholastic year.

what do I need to include to complete my scholarship application?

Please submit the following: Application form, Resume (if applicable), Essay, Two letters of recommendation, official transcript, Copy of your ACT or SAT score, A copy of your college acceptance letter.

how many students are awarded the scholarship each year?

The Scholarship Selection Committee will select 5 winners.

what are the scholarship award amounts?

$1,000 annually, for four years.

how are winners selected?

The Scholarship Selection Committee will select winners based on an evaluation of the completed application and the personal interviews with the finalists. The Committee will strongly consider academic achievements and credentials, such as the applicant’s high school class rank, transcripts, GPA, curriculum and ACT or SAT scores. The Committee will also consider evidence of leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, community service, work experience outside of school, honors and awards, and recognition by his/her peers.

when and how are scholarship winners announced?

The Scholarship Committee will make the final selection of winners after interviews. All finalists will be notified by telephone or email.
